Hi Mike,
Happy New Year! Unfortunately, I’m sorry to have to report that with the new year, some things have changed as far as funding for our Kite Festival goes. We are discontinuing the Special Event Grant Program, which is how we funded our festival in the past.
David from Chicago Kite and I have spoken a few times, trying to figure a way we could continue the festival in some fashion. After several attempts to get others to take over the event, I have been unsuccessful. It appears that we will be unable to host it for 2010. It’s been a pleasure working with you, and I hope someday in the future we can bring you all back for another fun festival. In the mean time, I sure hope that you and the club will come down and fly here for fun!

Well that's a shame.
Re: No more Pontiac Festivals
Yes it is, but I'm afraid that it will be more common with our economy in the state it's in.
I think we will see either festivals canceled or comped hotel rooms/food, etc eliminated for the time being. Maybe the more established festivals will be able to afford it, but not the small/local/new ones. Everyone has to cut corners to survive and kites, I'm afraid, are pretty low on the priority list.
Something we had probably better get used to.
