Possible Sugar Grove kite day
Possible Sugar Grove kite day
I got early word that the park district is planning on having a kite festival in early October. Looks like Chicago Kite has reached out to them or vice versa. It's where I usually fly and has some wide open spaces.
I'd like it to succeed, but it will be competing with peewee football.

Nice, where are they doing it at? The grounds by Harter? Seems a bit close to the airport for a kite festival. :)
Re: Possible Sugar Grove kite day
It will be at the new middle school. They have plenty of parking and open grounds as well as using the football field for featured flying if they need. Still waiting to hear more and very preliminary so far. I do hope that they have a training field for people. I might be talked into volunteering. I always think that they miss out by not pushing a stunt kite into kids hands rather than just pushing the SLK's. They only hold a kids interest for so long. IMHO.
It's plenty far away from all airport approaches or takeoffs. They're not going to be doing any high flying or huge displays as far as I know.

That would be great. If they need someone to coordinate with the airport... I know a guy.

I hope there's enough room for a groupie to put up all of his own crap.

Added to the IKE calendar . . .
Hey - isn't that your "home" field? I thought you said they took out the football fields and turned them into baseball diamonds . . . .

There was a 10 acre rectangular field next to the middle school football field. That's where I flew. there is still plenty of open land on the grounds between the football field and the school. I fly Rev's on the football field now, but haven't gotten too many SLK's out because of the fence and didn't want to ground stake.

Re: Possible Sugar Grove kite day
Thanks for the update.
BTW, unfortunately I can't make this festival, even though it's close to home.
Hope it's a great festival.

From what I've heard there is going to be lots of activities for families, but at the same time I'm beginning to wonder how much room there is going to be to fly kites.

I'm going to try and go ... but I don't know what that day is going to look like for me yet ... :-/
Re: Possible Sugar Grove kite day
Yeah. I plan on being there. I have no idea what to expect. Evidently there's lots planned. I just hope they gave some thought about the layout.

I may meet you there. If you know about when you'll be there, please post it here. Ditto Swannie.
Thanks,
Bill

Gusts to almost 50 tomorrow ... Should be interesting.
Re: Possible Sugar Grove kite day
I don't think I'll be there until 11a. Gotta finish up some stuff.
I'll have to bring the strong line for sure, Swannie.

Working today, so I can't make it. Have fun, be careful. You know what wind can do.
