The Grand in Southport will open this July following a spectacular £3million transformation &#; as the ultimate family business in town.

Restoring the beautiful Grade II Listed art deco building, which will celebrate its th anniversary next year, has been a true labour of love for owner Andrew Mikhail.

The owner of the thriving Mikhail Hotel and Leisure Group has a real passion for Southport, having already invested substantial amounts into redeveloping the Lord Street Hotel, the Bold Hotel, the Lord Street Sports Bar, Punch Tarmey’s bar, and the Southport Market center bar.

The Grand, on the picturesque Lord Street boulevard, holds a particularly special place in his heart, as the venue where he and wife Vicky enjoyed their very first date together 23 years ago.

In tribute to their happy family life together since that day, the three floors of The Grand have now been named after three of the couple’s children.

The first phase of the stunning new venue will open its doors on Friday, 15th July, offering visitors a true luxury, five-star experience. Visitors will be able to enjoy The Grand Brasserie and Chloe’s Piano Bar, with The Grace Suite due to open a few weeks later, and Harry’s Bar scheduled to open before Christmas.

Eimear McElroy, General Manager at The Grand in Southport, said: “On the ground floor will be Chloe’s Piano Bar. On the first floor will be The Princess Grace Suite. And on the top floor will be Harry’s Bar. They are all named after the couple’s children.

“Redeveloping The Grand is very much a personal challenge for the Mikhail family.

“They wanted it to be something really different and very special.”

Southport, a coastal resort where Andrew Mikhail has so many happy memories from days out with his parents to meeting his future wife, is a place where he is determined to create special experiences for others to enjoy.

Eimear said: “Andrew absolutely loves Southport, and wanted to do something really special for the town, and for the area.

“This is a total passion project for him. The fantastic thing is that he has been able to enjoy every detail of the building’s restoration.”

The Grand first opened in as a car showroom. It later became a cinema, and was more recently known as the ‘Grand Casino’, until its closure saw this magnificent building sitting empty for many years.

The Princess Grace Suite, one of the finest wedding and function suites in the North West, accommodating up to people, will open a few weeks later for viewings.

Harry’s Rooftop Bar and The Sky Bar, with views of the town and across to the sea are scheduled to be open by Christmas. Both bars boast spectacular retractable roofs to allow guests to enjoy a true year round outdoor experience.

Andrew Mikhail said: “Bringing fabulous buildings back to life is such a rewarding feeling, it’s what I love to do, and a building as stunning as The Grand deserves to be enjoyed by the people of Southport and beyond.

“I have very fond memories of the original Grand. I took my then girlfriend and now wife, Vicky, to our first date to the Stanley Casino restaurant on the first floor 23 years ago. Sadly, I lost my money but I gained a wife!

“It feels so strange to be owning not only The Grand but the surrounding venues, Lord Street Hotel, Punch Tarmey’s and The Bold as they are all places I visited as a kid with my parents.”

Your friends keep telling you to do it, you have a lot to say, you&#;re a good writer, and it seems fun! So where do you begin? You could sit down and decide what you&#;d like to blog about and the design, but there are a few important things to consider before you being blog planning.

1. To be Anonymous or Not to be Anonymous

It really depends on what you are going to blog about. Are you going to start a blog about the disturbing things that go on at work? Your political thoughts? A rant blog? Think about how your writing will affect your friends, your work, or your family. If you think your writing will jeopardize your personal life or professional life, consider writing your blog under and alias or anonymous.

2. Time Consuming

When you first start a blog, it&#;s hard to make revenue. Most advertisers look for publishers who have an audience, a significant amount of content, and sites that have been running longer than six months. Don&#;t expect to make money as soon as you start blogging, unless you&#;re working as a paid contributor for another blog or company. You will be putting in about five to eight hours a day to run a successful blog. You will need to promote yourself on all social media accounts, take photos, edit photos, write posts, edit posts, etc. That is all work without compensation. Although, blogging is fun and it&#;s a hobby. When people read, comment, and interact with your blog, that is kind of like getting paid. You will have to learn how to be patient until your blog kicks off. You can&#;t sit there and browse Pinterest, Facebook or watch movies while you&#;re blogging. You have to do that on your free time. The first day I started writing, I had maybe one few and each day there were more and more. It takes time but it&#;s worth it. All the unpaid time I spent on my blog has definitely paid off. Now I get to do what I love for a living and that&#;s what life should be about. Doing what makes you happy.

3. Invasion of Your Privacy. 

If you choose to go the #1 route, you won&#;t have to worry about this one, but the privacy is difficult. I chose to blog about my life and I expect a little privacy invasion and I&#;m used to it, but someone just starting might be a little overwhelmed by questions like &#;where do you live&#;, &#;how much money do you make&#;, or &#;what kind of bra do you wear.&#; As a blogger, you have to get used to it. If you put your life out there, expect questions. When you read a book or watch a movie, sometimes you wish the author was sitting there so you could ask them questions about the characters or the endings. In this case the blogger is the author and people will ask questions.

Sometimes it can get dangerous. I&#;ve had people look at the background of my photos and search all the apartments on Apartment Finder until they found a match. I&#;ve had people call a realtor to take a tour of my parents home when it was for sale and I&#;ve had people knock on my front door. You just have to be more cautious of what you&#;re putting on your computer, where you say you&#;re at, and how private you are with your readers. Just be cautious and don&#;t mention where you are at until you leave the place. If I am out on a hiking trail, I usually Instagram that as soon as I leave or if I&#;m at a restaurant, I won&#;t Tweet it until I leave. Hashtags can be dangerous too. Have you ever gone to an event and clicked on the hashtags to see who is around you. I do that at the Hornets games all the time. I&#;m sure some dangerous people do the same. Just please be careful.

4. You Will Get Haters

You can be the best writer, the nicest person, the most entertaining, and you will still get haters. Why? because there are miserable people hiding behind computer screens preying on successful people because it makes them feel better. Are you stable enough to deal with these haters?  Some days I just want to fire back and some days I do! The best way to go about it is to just ignore them but sometimes it&#;s hard. Make sure you are mentally ready to deal with mean people. If you&#;re confident, you&#;ll be fine. You don&#;t have to be ready to fire back, start a war, or even deal with them. Learn to hit delete, shake it off, and don&#;t take anything personal.

5. You Need To Know How To Use Your Blog

You need to spend some time reading about the platform you choose. I went from Tumblr to WordPress and it was definitely an adjustment. Tumblr was so easy! Write & Publish. WordPress has things like plugins, widgets, user admins, media pages, categories, tags, tools, and all kinds of updates. I had to sit and teach myself how to use word press and read all about the goods and the bad. I had to learn about hosting, bandwidth, and spam coding. You are going to want to spend a little money. I had a blog designer, paid hosting, paid domain and paid maintenance. Blogging is definitely not free and I pay fees every month. I look at them as my utilities. You have to keep reading about improving your blog everyday and things change overtime. Keep up with technology. There are tons of other blogs out there with the latest information and tips for your blog. Teach yourself how to use HTML, how to create widget and how to design! You&#;ll save a lot!
