Aprovechar las horas de luz

En primer lugar, tenemos el consejo más sencillo de conseguir. Si tu casa tiene las ventanas al exterior, intenta aprovechar la luz natural que nos regala el Sol durante todas las horas que sea posible. Para ello, abre cortinas y persianas al máximo, no necesitarás encender luces.

Además, es una buena forma de calentar las estancias a las que el Sol les entra directamente. Ahorrarás luz y calefacción.

Utiliza energías alternativas como paneles solares, aerogeneradores, etc.

Si está entre tus posibilidades, una instalación de energía renovable en tu hogar, como fotovoltaica o eólica, puede ayudarte a ahorrar energía y dinero.

Esta opción representa una fuerte inversión al inicio, pero lo verás rentabilizado en tus facturas a la larga. Además, existen diversas subvenciones, ayudas y posibilidades para poder instalar paneles solares en tu casa, ya sea comunidad de vecinos, unifamiliar, chalet, bungalow, etc.

Mantener el hogar a una temperatura adecuada

Tanto en invierno como en verano, si utilizas calefacción o aire acondicionado, asegúrate de mantenerlos a una temperatura adecuada. Cada grado suplementario representa un 7% más de consumo energético.

La temperatura ideal en invierno está entre 20ºC y 23ºC

Para la época estival, la temperatura perfecta está entre 22ºC y 25ºC.

Cambiar todas las bombillas a bajo consumo

La vida útil de las bombillas LED o de bajo consumo es superior a la de las halógenas. Estas últimas gastan hasta 10 veces más cantidad de electricidad que las primeras.

Hacer el cambio completo en una casa supone una inversión que nos puede parecer cara, pero a la larga conseguirás ahorrar muchísimo. De hecho, con bombillas LED y/o de bajo consumo puedes ahorrar hasta un 80% de energía.

Apagar completamente los aparatos eléctricos

Aunque no lo creas, los electrodomésticos que se quedan en modo stand-by consumen energía. Este modo se da cuando los aparatos que apagamos siguen enchufados; normalmente, cuando esto pasa, hay un piloto que te indica el modo stand-by.

Esto se puede solucionar desenchufando esos electrodomésticos o enchufándolos a regletas con interruptor de encendido y apagado.

Apagar luces que no necesitamos

El 20% del gasto de energía que se refleja en nuestras facturas es el de la luz. Por eso, es muy importante que te acuerdes de apagar las luces que no vayas a usar. Cada vez que sales de una habitación, pienses volver o no, acuérdate de apagar la luz; de este modo conseguirás un buen ahorro.

Y otro consejo: cuando salgas de casa, comprueba que has dejado todas las luces de todas las habitaciones apagadas; si tienes balcón, este es uno de los lugares en los que más nos despistamos dejando las bombillas encendidas.

Apaga el ordenador cuando no lo estés utilizando

Si tienes por costumbre dejar tu ordenador en suspensión o encendido cuando ya no lo vas a usar, empieza a cambiar este hábito y apágalo. Los aparatos en posición de espera pueden consumir hasta un 70% más al día.

Así que recuerda apagarlo y conseguirás ahorrar en tu casa.

Lavar con agua fría

Lavar en frío puede ser beneficioso para tus prendas además de para tu bolsillo. El gasto de la lavadora supone un 11,8% del total de nuestra factura. Que este electrodoméstico sea uno de los que más consumen se debe, en parte, a que tiene que llevar el agua a temperaturas elevadas.

Bajar la temperatura del calentador

Entre los consejos para ahorrar en casa, este es muy sencillo y efectivo. Si tu calentador tiene regulador de temperatura, lo ideal es que esté como máximo a 40ºC; no hace falta que esté a más porque nuestro cuerpo no lo necesita y, además, puede dañar las cañerías. Ahorrarás energía y también en tu factura.

Plancha toda la ropa que tengas de una sola vez

Muchas de las prendas que planchamos necesitan una temperatura muy elevada para quitar las arrugas más difíciles. Por eso, la plancha es uno de los electrodomésticos que más energía consumen, aunque no lo creas.

Intenta planchar toda la ropa que tengas de una sola vez para aprovechar al máximo esa energía que necesita la plancha y no hacer un gasto excesivo.

También puedes usar la plancha mientras se está calentando y cuando se está enfriando para planchar la ropa que necesita de una temperatura más baja.

Cambia tu frigorífico viejo por uno nuevo de bajo consumo

Otro de los consejos para ahorrar en casa es cambiar tu frigorífico. Si tu nevera tiene más de 10 años, ha llegado la hora de cambiarla. Los frigoríficos nuevos gastan hasta 1/3 menos de electricidad que los antiguos.

Busca las etiquetas A, B o C no solo en tu frigorífico nuevo, sino en otros electrodomésticos que compres para tu hogar. Es cierto que son un poco más caros, pero a larga lo notarás en tu factura de luz.

Evita mantener abierto el congelador y/o el frigorífico durante mucho tiempo

Para conseguir un ahorro energético efectivo en tu hogar, debes desprenderte de ese hábito que todos tenemos: el de abrir la nevera o el congelador y quedarte un buen rato mirando a ver si te una idea de qué coger.

Permanecer con el frigorífico abierto hace que la temperatura interior se pierda y que tenga que utilizar más energía para mantenerla. Así que, intenta pensar en qué es lo que quieres antes de abrirlo, tu factura de luz te lo agradecerá.

Mantén las puertas de neveras y congeladores cerradas

Algunos frigoríficos no cierran correctamente, por eso es mejor que te asegures de que lo has dejado bien cerrado cuando lo utilices. Una nevera que se queda abierta puede hacer hielo y gasta más de lo que debería porque no puede mantener la temperatura interior adecuada.

Este consejo para ahorrar en casa te puede parecer una bobada, pero todo ahorro es bienvenido.

The county motto of Caernarfonshire is “Cadernid Gwynedd” (The Strength of Gwynedd); the Gwynedd referred to here is the historic kingdom of Gwynedd.  The historic kingdom comprised of Anglesey, Caernarfonshire, Merioneth and parts of Denbighshire and Flintshire.  The boundaries of the historic kingdom would change constantly as territory was won and lost.  People from all parts of the former kingdom should be proud of their Gwynedd heritage.  In modern times, the name “Gwynedd” was revived in when the Caernarfonshire, Anglesey and Merionethshire Constabularies were merged as the “Gwynedd Constabulary”; in , Gwynedd, Denbighsire and Flintshire Constabularies were united, again as “Gwynedd Constabulary”.  In , in an attempt to avoid confusion, the Gwynedd Constabulary was renamed North Wales Police.  Gwynedd is an unitary authority that has been used for the purpose of local government since   The preserved county of Gwynedd (used for local government between and ) is under the Lieutenancies Act and as a postal county, although, Royal Mail have ceased to use and discourage the use of postal counties on their addresses.  Between and , Royal Mail plan to delete the postal counties completely from their database.  Gwynedd has many different meanings and ever-changing boundaries, making Gwynedd totally unsuitable for the purpose of general geography.

Conwy is essentially the name of a town and also the name of a river.  Conwy is a unitary authority that has been used for the purpose of local government since   The council, inappropriately, call themselves Conwy “County Borough” Council.  All the councils of Wales are free to call themselves what they wish.  While none of these are actual counties, Conwy County Borough Council, Denbighshire County Council and Cardiff Council with different names all have the same responsibilities as unitary authorities in Wales.  It is not advisable to write Conwy on an address outside of the post town lest the mail would be delivered to the town itself (Royal Mail give the same advice).  While most of us know which unitary authority we belong to, the same cannot be said about knowing everyone else’s unitary authority areas.  I once knew a man who failed to arrive at a job interview in Betws y Coed because he got lost in the actual town of Conwy, eighteen miles away!

The Caernarfonshire Association discourages the incorrect use of the term “county” to describe unitary authorities as this causes confusion and diminishes the awareness of the historic counties.

Caernarfonshire is a part of our heritage and culture.  Caernarfonshire has remained unchanged since   Wales needs a fixed popular geography that is divorced from the ever changing administrative areas.

Answer:

In a way, but the actual boundaries of the historic counties are based on the ancient boundaries of cantrefs and commotes.  The shire-ing of Wales was more of a rebranding than a completely new set of boundaries.

This is what the historian William Rees said in his “Historical Atlas of Wales”:

   &#; &#; the boundaries of the modern shires have largely been determined by the ancient divisions of the country. The survival of these ancient local divisions within the pattern of historical change constitutes a vital element in the framework of the national life and helps to preserve its continuity.&#;

What can I do to promote Caernarfonshire?

The best way of promoting Caernarfonshire is to use the historic counties every time you give your address (it is usually not enough to give just the name of your town as there is a great chance that the person taking your address will write the unitary authority  or soon to be completely abolished postal county instead of the proper county).  It is now acceptable to use the historic counties on Royal Mail addresses.  This instantly tells people which county you belong to and that you are proud of it.  If you hear the media making incorrect use of Caernarfonshire or other historic counties, let them know (politely, of course).  Likewise, if you receive mail with Gwynedd or Conwy used as the county, let then know that Gwynedd and Conwy are unitary authorities or a postal-county not proper counties.  Direct them to the Gazetteer of British Place Names.

Is the Caernarfonshire Association campaigning for a local government re-organisation and to bring back the Caernarfonshire County Council?

No.  Caernarfonshire exists as a separate entity to the County Council.  The actual county has existed since ; the administrative county existed only between and

We would like to see the boundaries of the traditional counties respected however.  Administrative units should not be partly in one county and partly in another.  For example, Conwy unitary authority is partly in Caernarfonshire and partly in Denbighshire &#; we do not agree with this.

We want to see the traditional counties used for the purpose of general geography, sports and cultural events.  The countries of Britain need a fixed popular geography that is divorced from the ever changing administrative areas.
