In this week’s basketball coaching conversation, Florida Gulf Coast University head coach Michael Fly joins the podcast to discuss being an assistant coach who becomes the head coach. Fly who has spent the previous seven years as an assistant coach on the Eagles’ staff, was promoted to head coach of the FGCU men’s basketball program this spring. He gives great advice for being the best assistant coach you can be, while providing insights into how he is going to approach being a head coach.

Fly has been a part of more than wins the past seven years, six ASUN Tournament Final appearances, three NCAA Tournament victories, three ASUN Tournament titles and three ASUN Regular Season Championships, two berths in the NIT, a CIT appearance and a run to the Sweet Sixteen which captivated the nation and put the Southwest Florida campus on the national radar for good.

Fly came to FGCU from Florida State where he was the video coordinator for Leonard Hamilton. He has also been an intern for the NCAA and the Charlotte Bobcats under head coach Bernie Bickerstaff.

“What was your mother’s relationship to her body and to food like?”

It’s a question I always ask new clients, especially since 99% of my clients are women and the mother-daughter connection to body image and relationship to food is profoundly strong and heavily correlated. In just that one question, a whole inner world and history unfolds. In that one question lies a tale of body hate, diet culture, and ideas of femininity based in restriction, dampening of desires, and the Big Lie.

What is the Big Lie?

It’s the one that has been sold and told to women and girls from generation to generation.

It’s a mathematical equation of sorts that leads to a lifetime of cutting off parts of ourselves to meet someone else’s criteria of who they think we should be. It’s one that leads to wearing a mask of false satisfaction and joy. It’s an agreement to dampen one’s appetite for just about everything in the hopes of being chosen and kept safe. And it keeps an almost billion dollar industry humming.

It goes something like this:
Pretty + Thin + Youthful = Being Loved, Chosen, and Secure

In other words, if you want a good life (and want to have/keep a partner), you have to follow this formula. (We only have to look at celebrities and models to know that is % not true (constant breakups, multiple divorces, and many tragic stories), but we are still sold this&#;)

Our great grandmothers were taught this equation, who then taught it to our grandmothers, who taught it to our mothers who then taught it to us.

Sometimes explicitly, sometimes covertly.

Sometimes it was taught by them telling us our bodies and our hunger were wrong and needed to be fixed. Other times it was taught by them telling us or showing us through their actions, words, glances (as they passed a mirror or passed another woman on the street), or the various diet books they owned that their own bodies and hunger were wrong and needed to be fixed.

No matter how it was translated, we got the message. Any chance of it leaving our psyche was made impossible by the culture at large that made sure it seeped into our very being, leaving no room for us to escape.

And so, when I ask this question, my clients tell me stories of their mothers constantly being on a diet, spending hours at the gym. They tell me stories of seeing their moms swing from starving restriction to full on binges where everything and anything was allowed for the day or meal. They recount the first time their mom told my client that they were too big, too fat, too out of shape and needed to go on a diet, and so they would diet together. They sadly recall their moms always being unhappy about their bodies, looking in the mirror at their bodies with disdain and disappointment, refusing to be in pictures because they “were too fat right now.” They tell me stories of painfully thin mothers who tried to appear like they had a normal relationship with their body and with food, but who they could tell were barely eating when dinner was served.

They remember their mothers saying things like:
“I’ve been so bad this week. I need to get to the gym.”
“I look disgusting. I can’t believe how big I’ve gotten.”
“It’s a constant battle…if I even look at food, I gain weight.”
“Did you notice how thin/big so and so is?”

…And now they catch themselves saying the same destructive things.

According to research published by NIH that specifically studied five year old girls&#; ideas about dieting, girls recognize their mom’s dieting behavior as early as age four or five.

The stories vary but what was communicated to my clients was clear: Mom struggled with her relationship to her body and food and never felt like she was enough. She never was at home in her body, and so much of her life force went into controlling food, controlling her body, and gauging where she fit in in comparison to everyone else.

Even if their mothers tried to hide it or never directly said to their daughters that they needed to change, like an invisible but deadly poison, it still penetrated their psyche and self-concept. Children are excellent observers; it’s not always what is said, but what is pieced together that creates meaning. And body hate/food fear has a way of being seen, even if one tries to disguise it or mask their struggle.

I can honestly say that in over a decade in my practice, I have not had a single woman come in who was grappling in her relationship to her body and food and shared with me that their mother appeared to have been happy or peaceful in hers. And more often than not, it trickled into their mothers then wanting to help their daughters change their bodies, in service of the Big Lie they were blinded by.

And the stats back this up.

Here are just a handful that mirror what I have heard in my sessions:

-In a survey for the teen magazine Sugar, girls of mothers who have dieted were twice as likely to have an eating disorder.

-According to research published by NIH that specifically studied five year old girls&#; ideas about dieting, girls recognize their mom’s dieting behavior as early as age four or five. 34% to 65% of girls aged 5 years old had ideas about dieting. Compared to girls whose mothers did not diet, girls whose mothers reported current or recent dieting were more than twice as likely to have ideas about dieting. Among mothers, more than 90% reported recent dieting, and most reported use of both health-promoting and health-compromising dieting behaviors.

-The National Eating Disorders Association found that nearly 80% of year-olds are afraid of being overweight.

-A review from Common Sense Media determined that 1 out of 4 children had dieted prior to turning 7, and that one-third of boys and the majority of girls ages 6 to 8 say their ideal bodies are thinner than they currently are. This follows a report that a staggering 80% of American girls aged 10 have been on diets. The review also found that children as young as 5 years old report being dissatisfied with their bodies and that by preschool, children have already learned that society judges others based on how they look.

But I also want to be clear: I’m not blaming my mom nor anyone’s mom for this.

As I said earlier, it&#;s all a part of the Big Lie getting passed down like gospel.
Our mothers and their mothers didn’t benefit from the conversations we are finally starting to have about weight bias, diet culture, and body image.

They were told the lie and the culture solidified it because we DO have a weight bias in this country that needs some serious dismantling. At some point, even if our mothers were the “perfect” role models about body image and a healthy relationship to food, there is a vampire of an industry just waiting to claim children’s body joy.

And furthermore, our fathers aren’t off the hook. We still look to them for guidance, affirmation, and to pick up cues as to what is seen as attractive and desirable by the opposite sex.
We are also watching to see what they are doing in regards to body and food. Men also have some serious eating and body issues, but it gets wrapped up in a more “masculine” package of biohacking, hard core workouts, and bro science.

So where does that leave us?

If we know that our moms were sold the Big Lie and it affected us deeply, how do we rectify it and get to a place of deeper healing?

While the answers are much more complex than something I can wrap up in a neat little checklist, I can offer a few places to begin:

1) Understand that the intentions of your mother and the passing down of the Big Lie were based on what she thought would keep you safe and loved. Remember the equation I presented to you. The “Royal Road” (as my mentor Marc David used to call it) to a happy life was sold as the “Royal Road” of diet and exercise, of restriction and thinness. The execution of the intentions were certainly painful and damaging, but her intentions were coming from a loving (though misinformed) place.

2) Understand that your mom was also once an innocent girl who’s connection to her body was stolen by the Lie and the culture too; when you can remember her as an innocent girl who also was indoctrinated into pain and suffering around her body, weight, and food, a space of healing can open up inside of you. Again, it doesn’t make any of it right, but it can help you to begin to see the messaging and even her pain through a different lens. She is a victim of the Big Lie and Diet Culture too.

3) Remember that your mom didn’t act alone. From fathers, to grandparents, to the media, and to extremely misguided pediatricians and so much more, your mom’s worries about weight, food, and having the “perfect” body being transmitted to you were part of a complex, painful system and Cultural Soup that so many other players played a part of.

Yes, we need to bring light to how important our mother’s role is/was in how we form our first impressions around body, food, and weight bias so we can heal and also empower other moms on how to approach these delicate and vital issues in a more life/body affirming way, but again, we can’t oversimplify it all by putting all the blame on mothers. Let’s look at the head of the beast and all those (especially companies and industries controlled and owned by men) who have so much to gain by all of us buying the Big Lie…and buying products, diets, etc. that keep it alive.

4) Lastly, see making this connection between mothers and body image/ how your mother’s relationship to body and food affected your relationship to body and food as an opening for powerful reparenting of the self. Now here lies fertile ground for you to heal deep generational wounds, to begin a new path of body reverence, body connection, body freedom, body neutrality, body reclamation, body peace, and perhaps body love (with no pressure to follow timelines or having to do any of that “perfectly”). Be the body liberated mother to yourself that you wish you had had, no shame/guilt required. Begin your path to food freedom, and dismantle your psyche from the Big Lie, tiny win by tiny win.

Each unfollow of diet culture social media accounts, throwing out of diet books (or wellness books that are actually diet books too), or day you don’t measure your worth via the scale is an important win. Reclaim your life force and make kindness and self-compassion the staples that body comparison, fear, and weight hate used to occupy.

We can’t change the past, but we can start to unlearn, rethink how we see and connect to food and body, and begin to nourish ourselves in ways we have been starved for so many years. And get support for this brave journey of remothering/reparenting yourself in this arena, if not with me, with another practitioner or community that will stand by you on the journey. None of us wound up in this complex mess alone, and none of us should have to try to break out the cycle alone either.

В среду под стенами офиса президента Украины Владимира Зеленского прошла необычная акція протеста. Как правило, здесь, при полном невмешательстве полиции, митингуют местные неонацисты, обычно требующие продолжения войны в Донбассе. На сей раз повод был иным. «Руки прочь от сироты!» — кричали в окна президенту сотни активистов.

Сирота — это двенадцатилетний Максим Ткачук, живущий с бабушкой на Волыни, юный певец, которого полюбила вся Украина. Но руководство Национальной общественной телерадиокомпании Украины (НОТУ) отказалось рассматривать его в качестве кандидата на участие в детском фестивале «Евровидение».

Ткачуку напомнили, что в марте тот исполнял в Лондоне песни Муслима Магомаева, Демиса Руссоса, а также «Смуглянку»

Не имевшему конкурентов фавориту национального отбора напомнили, что в марте тот исполнял в Лондоне песни Муслима Магомаева, Демиса Руссоса, а также «Смуглянку» из фильма «В бой идут одни "старики"» на вокальном конкурсе Stars of the Albion, посвященном летию Победы. Информационным спонсором конкурса среди прочих являлось британское представительство Россотрудничества. Этот факт был воспринят телевизионными чиновниками от Зеленского как измена ребенка новой, националистической Украине. Что такое травля со стороны «патриотов», Максим Ткачук осознал еще в марте, сразу по возвращении из Лондона: воспитывающие его бабушка и дедушка и он сам получали гневные, преимущественно матерные, послания от поклонников нацистских маршей и бандеровских частушек. Уже тогда мальчик, поющий на нескольких языках, отвечалим не по-детски мудро: «У каждого есть свое мнение. Пусть говорят. Я бы спросил, зачем, что им не нравится? То, что я спел песню на летие Победы, еще не означает, что они мне должны писать всякие гадости. Мне нравится Украина, мне нравятся люди, но есть и такие, которые считают себя такими уж патриотами, что даже не знаю», — говорил тогда местным СМИ юный певец. Вопреки кампании травли он подал заявку на детский конкурс «Евровидение» от Украины, и был однозначным фаворитом — он получил десятки тысяч просмотров и знаков одобрения в Сети, в разы больше, чем у ближайших конкурентов.

«Расправа над детской мечтой»: почему на Украине продолжают дискриминацию спевшего «Смуглянку» Максима Ткачука

Украинская оппозиция возмутилась недопуском летнего Максима Ткачука на национальный отборочный этап Детского Евровидения — Фракция «Оппозиционная платформа — За жизнь» попросила разобраться в ситуации правительство страны. В партии считают, что мальчик подвергается дискриминации за исполнение советской песни «Смуглянка» на международном конкурсе в Лондоне, прошедшем в начале текущего года. Это выступление вызвало негодование националистов и радикально настроенных пользователей соцсетей. Как полагают эксперты, киевские власти игнорируют нападки на мальчика, опасаясь гнева радикалов в случае выхода Ткачука на Евровидение.

Сопредседатель фракции «Оппозиционная платформа — За жизнь» («ОПЗЖ») Вадим Рабинович направил в правительство Украины и Государственный комитет телевидения и радиовещания (ГКТР) страны обращение по поводу аннулирования заявки летнего Максима Ткачука на участие в национальном отборочном этапе Детского Евровидения. Об этом сообщает пресс-служба партии.

Некоторые неравнодушные украинцы запустили флешмоб в поддержку талантливого ребёнка. На фоне памятников Великой Отечественной войны «Смуглянку» исполнили одесситы и жители Сум. Также Ткачука поддержали журналисты телеканала «НАШ», а представители Одесской епархии УПЦ МП вручили мальчику подарки.

В беседе с RT ведущий научный сотрудник РИСИ Олег Неменский отметил, что для подавляющего большинства украинцев не имеет значение язык, на котором говорит или поёт человек. Однако власти страны потворствуют «активному националистическому меньшинству», позволяющему себе агрессивные выпады даже в адрес детей.

«На Украине давно господствует террор со стороны ультраправых. Для них этот мальчик перешёл красную линию лишь потому, что исполнил песню на русском языке. Такое происходит, потому что украинские радикалы ощущают себя полными монополистами патриотического дискурса. С их точки зрения, патриотизм должен строиться на нетерпимости к любым элементам русской и советской культуры», — пояснил Неменский.

В беседе с RT заместитель директора института стран СНГ Владимир Жарихин напомнил, что в году Зеленский, будучи художественным руководителем студии «Квартал 95», защищал от нападок украинских госорганов русскоязычный сериал «Сваты».

«Происходящее с мальчиком из-за исполненной ранее «Смуглянки» — это полный абсурд. Тем более фильм «В бой идут одни старики», который обессмертил эту песню, снимался в Киеве. Сейчас за ребёнка опять некому заступиться. При этом Зеленский до президентства защищал свой «Квартал 95» от СБУ, а сейчас не считает нужным помочь тем, кто выступает на русском языке», — отметил Жарихин.

Олег Неменский считает, что НОТУ отстранила Ткачука от отборочного этапа Детского Евровидения, опасаясь гнева радикалов. Зеленский, с точки зрения эксперта, сознательно игнорирует дискриминацию юного певца, также не желая навлечь на себя недовольство «ультраправого меньшинства».

«В данном случае мы имеем дело с испугом соответствующего органа, который не хочет получить проблемы с националистами. Несмотря на отсутствие каких-либо законных оснований, мальчика всё равно решили не пускать. А если говорить про Зеленского, то он в очередной раз продемонстрировал, что боится ультраправых сил, готов идти у них на поводу и следовать их воинственной повестке», — подытожил Неменский.

В последний раз юный музыкант привез в страну победу на музыкальном конкурсе Stars of the Albion, который проходил в Лондоне. Участники соревнования должны были исполнить песни о войне. Максим выбрал «Смуглянку».

После этой победы о мальчике написали не только все СМИ родного Волынского региона, но и центральные издания страны. Правда, фигурировал в этих материалах Максим не как победитель, а как «изменник», «трусливый соловей» и «сторонник оккупантов». Все из-за того, что пел по-русски и на сцену вышел в костюме, стилизованном под фронтовую форму.

Этот скандал не дал мальчику пробиться на «Евровидение», как написал в фейсбуке депутат от «Слуги народа» Максим Бужанский, музыканта отстранили от отбора.

Депутат Верховной Рады Украины от партии «Оппозиционная платформа — За жизнь» Илья Кива заявил, что бывший украинский президент Пётр Порошенко планирует осуществление госдарственного переворота в стране в День независимости 24 августа.

«Порошенко финансирует националистические группы, готовя их к маршу на День независимости, который должен перерасти в противостояние с властью и закончиться государственным переворотом», — цитирует телеканал NewsOne Киву.

Ведуча, Світлана ШЕВЧЕНКО: Негайно розпочати кримінальне провадження за статтею тероризм, розслідувати і покарати тих хто перетворює Україну на поле військових дій вимагає «Опозиційна платформа — Да життя», і в заяві партії йдеться: що розстріл автобусу — злочин Нацкорпусу і Азову. І це наслідок безкарності націоналрадикалів що діють при прямому заступництві і підбурюванні влади. І в тому числі президента Зеленського, який відкрито заявляє про свою підтримку їхньої позиції. Партія вимагає заборонити діяльність кримінальних об'єднань — «Національного корпусу» і «Азова» як терористичних організацій на території України. Розпочати кримінальне провадження за статтею тероризм вимагає і громадянська організація «Патріоти за життя» і також вимагають від міністра внутрішніх справ Арсена Авакова відправити у відставку очільника нацполіції Харківщини Валерія Сокуренка.

Юрист Елена Лукаш подчеркнула, что преступные группировки нападают в открытую, так как уверенны в своей безнаказанности.

«Это специально откормленные, отобранные преступные элементы, которые в соответствии с преступным планом организованно совершают публичные преступления, не боясь ничего», — заявила она.

По мнению юриста, нападавших националистов прикрывает Служба безопасности Украины.

Также Лукаш заявила, что все эти радикалы — это подельники власти.

«Органы следствия являются их кураторами. Евгений Карась сам заявлял, что сотрудничает с СБУ, его член банды Резниченко это подтверждал, а когда его избивали, он говорил, что это С Между ними разборки, но так безнаказанно ведут себя только те, кто уверен в собственной безнаказанности», — сказала она.

Лукаш не верит, что экс-президент Украины Петр Порошенко готовит госпереворот — он никогда так хорошо не жил, как при нынешнем президенте Зеленском.

«Я не верю в этот миф, что Петр Алексеевич нападет на Владимира Зеленского. Он никогда так хорошо не жил, как при Владимире Зеленском. Я не знаю для кого прозвучало «я ваш приговор», но у Порошенко все шикарно. Возможно он захочет покачать ситуацию, чтобы добиться больших политических преференций, но никак не больше», — объяснила юрист.

В эфире большого политического ток-шоу «Противостояние» с Дианой Панченко и Вячеславом Пиховшеком обсудили обстрел под Харьковом автобуса с представителями общественной организации «Патриоты — За жизнь», информацию, что на Донбассе уже месяц как отсутствуют боевые потери.

По словам экс-министра аграрной политики Игоря Швайки, украинцы уже не ждут от власти расследования резонансных дел.

«Проблема нашей страны в том, что преступления ни при какой власти Украины не были должным образом расследованы».

По мнению экс-нардепа Анны Герман, все действия радикалов руководятся с Банковой, а та руководится из-за границы.

Народный депутат Украины от фракции «Оппозиционная платформа— За жизнь» Александр Колтунович считает, что националисты совершают такие нападения, поскольку власть хочет удержаться при власти любыми способами, видя падение своего рейтинга.

«На сегодня мы видим, что власть хочет удержаться любыми способами, поэтому осуществляют такие нападения, чтобы не вышел «тарифный майдан» и, чтобы закрыть рот оппозиции».

По словам военного и политического эксперта Юрия Дудкина, именно спецслужбы обучают и направляют неонацистские силы против неугодных политических партий.

«Смотря на такой терроризм, становится ясно, что именно силовые структуры обучают и направляют эти неонацистские силы против неугодных партий», — сказал он.

Герман считает, что радикалов финансируют для запугивания украинцев, чтоб не бунтовали, чтобы не допустить выполнения Минских соглашений и мирного возвращения Донбасса.

«Власти не нужно возвращение Донбасса, поэтому ей нужно иметь козырь — смотрите: мы не можем, потому что придут радикалы и нас выкинут с Банковой. Это троянский конь в столице и с этим никто ничего не делает, потому что это все часть большого сценария по развалу Украины», — резюмировала политик.

Для борьбы с «Оппозиционной платформой — За жизнь» власть использует национал-радикалов

В Україні в розпал попиту на готівкову валюту для приборкання панічних настроїв пунктам обміну валют заборонили демонструвати на табло актуальні курси. Але зараз вони скоріше б налякали тих, хто на піку девальвації у вересні року примудрився придбати готівкові долари за 43 UAH/USD. Адже 5 квітня року американську валюту банки продають за 37,,9 UAH/USD, а купують за 36,,8 UAH/USD. Тобто, готівковий курс продовжує наближатися до офіційного курсу НБУ, який з липня року складає 36,57 UAH/USD.

Весняне полегшення. Що допомагає гривні зміцнюватися

Взимку ситуація для гривні була не дуже сприятливою, й утримати нацвалюту, передусім, допомогло надходження значних коштів від партнерів України.

"Завдяки міжнародній фінансовій допомозі НБУ зміг наприкінці року відновити резерви до довоєнного рівня [до $,46 млрд] й активно використовувати ці кошти, щоб утримувати курс гривні до долара США фіксованим після його одноразового послаблення наприкінці минулого липня на 25%", — розповідає Віталій Ваврищук, голова департаменту макроекономічних досліджень групи ICU. За словами співрозмовника Фокусу,протягом зими потреба в інтервенціях НБУ була вкрай високою і регулятор продавав щотижня в середньому $ млн, що було обумовлено стрімким зростанням імпорту товарів у період блекаутів.

Весна принесла сутіве полегшення. За словами Ваврищука, інтервенції Нацбанку скоротилися в середньому до менш ніж $ млн за перші три тижня березня й навряд чи повернуться до рівня зими в осяжній перспективі. В ICU прогнозують, що обсяги фінансування України від міжнародних донорів дещо перевищать дефіцит на валютному ринку протягом року, а рівень резервів НБУ на кінець року становитеме більше $30 млрд, що є досить комфортним показником, еквівалентним 19% ВВП. Відповідно, протягом року у Нацбанку буде достатній простір для маневру на валютному ринку.

Опитані Фокусом експерти перелічують й чимало інших факторів, які призвели до збільшення пропозиції валюти й, відповідно, весняного укріплення гривні на готівковому ринку.

Перш за все, Анна Золотько, директор департаменту казначейських операцій Юнекс Банку, згадує загальний тренд на скорочення попиту на купівлю валюти з боку громадян.

"Навіть на безготівковому ринку протягом березня обсяги купівлі валюти населенням скорочувалися та склали за підсумками місяця $ млн. Для порівняння: в лютому цей показник склав $ млн, а в січні – $ млн, — деталізує Золотько. — Також суттєво скоротилося загальне негативне сальдо операцій фізосіб з купівлі та продажу валюти: якщо у зимові місяці воно в середньому складало $ млн на день, то наприкінці березня скоротилося до $ млн".

Співрозмовниця Фокусу робить припущення, що частину гривневої ліквідності, яка раніше спрямовувалась на готівковий валютний ринок, абсорбував споживчий ринок, й наводить у приклад продажі нових авто, які у лютому зросли на 26% відносно січня, а в березні додали ще 21% до показника лютого. Й хоча в абсолютних цифрах обсяги все ще досить скромні, але динаміка може виступати індикатором споживчих настроїв загалом. Крім цього, опитані Фокусом забудовники розповідають про схожі процеси на ринку первинної нерухомості, де весною року також дещо пожвавився попит після його тривалого просідання. Тобто, населення почало активніше витрачати гроші на купівлю важливих для себе та родини речей, а не на купівлю іноземної валюти.

Важливою новиною, яка могла вплинути на курс гривні, Анна Золотько вважає підписання угоди з МВФ, а саме те, що домовленості з фондом передбачають скасування режиму фіксованого курсу НБУ тільки на другому етапі реалізації програми через місяців. Вочевидь, подібна визначеність щодо ситуації на валютному ринку додає впевненості його учасникам. Фокус робить припущення, що тривалість першої фази програми з МВФ саме впродовж місяців, пояснюється тим, що саме стільки, відповідно до очікувань міжнародних партнерів, триватиме активна фаза війни в Україні.

Серед інших важливих факторів експерти також згадують чинник посівної, яка триває в Україні з кінця лютого. Бо щоб підготуватися до неї, аграрії традиційно продають свою валютну виручку та заощадження.

"Укріплення гривні на готівковому ринку відбулося за рахунок збільшення пропозиції іноземної валюти, зокрема продаж валюти аграріями для підготовки до посівної та збільшення привабливості ОВДП в національній валюті на фоні зниження девальваційних очікувань населення", — коментує Сергій Кучерявий, директор департаменту контролю ліквідності та цінних паперів АТ "Кредобанк".

Підсумовуючи, Антон Курінний, дилер департаменту глобальних ринків ОТП Банку, називає наступні основні фактори зміцнення гривні на готівковому ринку:

• підготовка аграріїв до сезону;
• зниження тиску на готівковий ринок завдяки тримісячним валютним депозитам;
• прикриття "онлайн-казино", які, за словами експертів, мали вплив на валютний готівковий попит;
• спад у тіньовій та реальній економіці, через що також зменшився попит на валюту.

Обережні прогнози. Чому попереду на гривню можуть чекати подальші коливання

Усі в Україні очікують обнадійливих звісток з фронту. Від них залежатимуть настрої бізнесу і громадян. На думку Анни Золотько, позитивні новини будуть сприяти покращенню споживчих настроїв. У такому разі попит з валютного ринку буде й надалі перетікати у споживчий сектор. Але чинник посівної потроху сходитиме нанівець.

"Можливості для подальшого зміцнення гривні на готівковому ринку дуже обмежені. Курс впритул наблизився до вартості безготівкових доларів в банках з розміщенням на депозиті — 37,,45 UAH/USD, й це призведе до перетікання попиту на готівковий ринок, стримає подальше зміцнення гривні й, можливо, спровокує тимчасове зростання курсу", — попереджає Анна Золотько.

Нагадаємо, купівлю валюти із розміщенням на депозит терміном від трьох місяців по вигідному курсу, який був суттєво нижчим за готівковий, громадянам запропонували з метою послаблення тиску на готівковий валютний ринок. Але зараз переваги цього інструменту нівелюються. Бо немає сенсу заморожувати кошти на три місяці, коли в будь-якому обміннику можна придбати долар по такому ж курсу. З урахуванням можливого перетікання попиту від депозитів на готівковий ринок, Анна Золотько не виключає доволі динамічних, але, скоріше, нетривалих коливань курсу.

"Ми очікуємо продовження укріплення гривні в середньостроковій перспективі внаслідок схвалення чотирирічного пакету фінансування МВФ для покриття критичних видатків, зниження девальваційних очікувань населення, зниження привабливості валютних вкладів внаслідок зростання вимог щодо резервування та зростання привабливості ОВДП. При цьому ми не виключаємо можливості незначних валютних коливань", — ділиться з Фокусом Сергій Кучерявий.

Для довгострокового прогнозування, у тому числі, подальшої динаміки курсів валют, ситуація в Україні залишається надто невизначеною. Поки триває війна з агресором, ніяких впевнених прогнозів надати не можуть ані вітчизняні експерти, ані міжнародні організації. Та й переглядати минулі прогнози ніхто не поспішає.

Наприклад, у консенсус-прогнозі, який оприлюднили в березні в "Центрі економічної стратегії" (ЦЕС), середнє значення офіційного курсу на кінець року оцінили в 41,3 UAH/USD. Найгірший прогноз — 45 UAH/USD, найліпший — 36,6 UAH/USD. Тобто, жоден з опитаних експертів не сподівається на те, що Нацбанк відкорегує фіксований курс в бік зміцнення гривні. Цей консенсус-прогноз побудований на основі опитування аналітиків Dragon Capital, Concorde Capital, Morgan Stanley, ICU, Oxford Economics, Sense Bank та Інститут економічних досліджень та політичних консультацій спільно з German Economic Team.

"Збереження поточного фіксованого курсу значно сприятиме зниженню інфляції. Проте, поточний фіксований курс обумовлює величезний стійкий дефіцит на валютному ринку. Тому ми вважаємо, що НБУ буде зберігати поточний курс гривні до долара США принаймні до кінця третього кварталу року, але може послабити його на 10% [до 40,23 UAH/USD] наприкінці року", — пояснює логіку аналітиків своєї компанії Віталій Ваврищук. На думку співрозмовника Фокусу, фінальне рішення НБУ значною мірою залежатиме від очікувань обсягів міжнародної фінансової допомоги на рік.

А в ОТП Банку, за словами Антона Курінного, попри те, що поки ситуація стабільна і готівкова гривня укріплюється, на кінець року очікують офіційний курс НБУ близько UAH/USD, а готівковий – орієнтовно UAH/USD.

Тож, здається, тим, хто на хвилі паніки придбав долари за 43 UAH/USD, не варто піддаватися емоціям і без особливої потреби продавати "зелені" по 37 UAH/USD, таким чином, втрачаючи майже 14%. Адже до кінця року цілковито вірогідно повернення валютного ринку до рівнів осені-зими го. А от купувати валюту, якщо були такі плани, саме час, поки зараз гривня зміцнила свої позиції.

The curious, the adventurous, the roamers and the wanderers are waiting with bated breath for the world to welcome us back. Not all of us will travel as soon as those doors open, but we are waiting, waiting to see what the new normal in the world of hospitality will look like.

In this moment, in these past months, we are truly global. Globally connected by fear, uncertainty, a longing for normalcy and a handful of really great memes.

Countries around the world are moving at a different pace, the pace and each move determined by where they are in this pandemic and, more importantly, by who they are as a society. For some, it’s been two steps forward and one step back. Some have opened, some are preparing to open and some are still in that unknown space of cautious optimism. 

I spoke to properties around the world to find out what their opening plans are, what they are doing to keep their employees and guests safe and what a stay with them will look like moving forward. I’ve asked each property a series of the same questions and what I have found is that they have all been fervidly planning, and now implementing, practices and protocols designed to keep their employees and guests safe.

There are multiple protocols that are being implemented across the board such as hand washing stations and/or hand sanitizers located in multiple areas of the properties, extensive cleaning and disinfecting procedures for guest rooms and public areas, staff in PPE, guests required to wear masks in public areas and buffets replaced with à la carte options. What I’ve listed below is what each property is doing in addition to these steps.

All but one of the properties listed below are properties that I have stayed at in the past. I reached out to these specific properties as I believe them to be great options for a social distancing getaway. The one property I have not stayed in is one that I am hoping to stay in this fall. However, as with everything now, there are no guarantees. We are all learning to be a bit more flexible, aren’t we?

Here are approaches that properties around the world are taking:

Africa

Tanzania

Nomad Tanzania

Nomad Tanzania is a collection of intimate safari lodges and camps located across Tanzania. Nomad has long been considered pioneers of the Tanzanian safari.

Here is what Nomad is doing to keep guests and staff safe:

• All guests are encouraged to apply for visas pre-travel in order to avoid unnecessary time at the airport. 
• Upon arrival, guests will have temperatures checked and will be the first to enter their rooms.

• Camp crews will be operating in teams who will arrive in two-week isolation rotations. Once they have successfully cleared that isolation period, they will arrive at the camp and have their temperatures taken each day.
• All staff have been trained on social distancing measures and safe interaction with guests.

Here’s how your stay may look a little different:

• Game drive vehicles will be allocated on a private basis where possible. Otherwise, vehicles will be limited to a maximum of four individuals. 
• For dining, there will be no buffet set ups and guests will eat at their own separate tables, as opposed to one large communal table.

I can’t think of any better place than the African bush to socially distance. A safari experience with Nomad is generally quite private and the majority of your time is spent outdoors. Nomad is prepared to safely welcome you.

We were set to visit two Nomad properties, with ten friends, in June of this year. Thankfully, we were able to postpone to next year.

Zambia

Islands of Siankaba

Floating in the middle of the Zambezi river, Islands of Siankaba is an absolute dream and even more so if you are looking to limit contact with others. This seven-chalet lodge, connected by rope bridges, is just down river from the iconic Victoria Falls and has plenty of activities (or not) that are suited for just you and your plus one.

In addition to thorough sanitation and cleaning procedures, here’s how the team at Islands of Siankaba will keep guests safe:

• Guest must produce valid health clearance certificate prior to arrival.
• Guest’s temperatures will be taken upon arrival. 
• Guests will be asked to wear masks in public areas and will be advised to limit touching surfaces in communal areas.

Islands of Siankaba is in the unique situation of being set in the village of Siankaba and staffed by villagers. They are being incredibly cautious to protect the local village.

Here are a few things they are doing to keep staff safe:

• Uniforms will be left on-site at the end of each shift to be laundered there.
• High risk staff will be assigned to duties that entail minimal interaction with guests and other staff.
• Temperatures will be taken and logged each day.
• Staff will be regularly tested for Covid

Again, remote lodges like Islands of Siankaba are already “socially distanced”, but here are a few things that will be different with your stay:

• Guests will dine at separate tables as opposed to communal dining.
• Sundowners on the Zambezi will be separate or appropriately socially distanced.
• Pool usage will be limited to different time slots for separate guests.

Because of Islands of Siankaba’s remote location, their staff have not been greatly exposed to the public. At this moment, there have been no confirmed cases of Covid in the area. The team at Islands of Siankaba has worked diligently in educating the villagers about the virus and have supplied masks, soap and hand sanitizers to the village and surrounding community. As a small lodge, they are able to accommodate any special guest requirements.

Islands of Siankaba have also put a contingency plan in place in case one of their guests or staff members become ill.

The lodge is currently open to local guests and hopes to welcome international guests in the early part of next year. You can find out about their current specials through your travel agent or by reaching out to them directly.

Mexico

Puerto Vallarta

Ocho Cascadas

Dangling over the Pacific Ocean, Ocho Cascadas is another property that lends itself to social distancing. Comprised of just nine large, open air and fully serviced villas, you never need to leave the property.

However, they are taking the extra steps necessary to ensure guest safety. Aside from cleaning, sanitizing and making sure staff have PPE, here is what Ocho Cascadas is doing to keep guests and staff safe:

• Staff will be provided PPE equipment and their uniforms will be left on-site for laundering at the end of each shift.
• During breaks/meal times, staff will be limited to three people per table.
• Staff will have their temperature taken and logged upon arrival for their shift.

At the time of writing, no staff member has had the virus.

For guests, things will be slightly different:

• Check-in will be “VIP style”. Guests will be directed to their villa where they will find their disinfected villa keys in a sealed bag.
• Upon entering their villa, guests will find a welcome kit that will include a face mask, sanitizing hand gel and gloves.
• Groceries and other villa deliveries will be disinfected before delivered to guests.
• Massage services are suspended for the time being.
• The (very loved) weekly cocktail welcome party will be put on hold until further notice.

Ocho Cascadas is open now! However, although they are taking steps designed to keep staff and guests safe, they offer no flexibility for cancellations, postponements or rescheduling due to the pandemic. We were set to bring a group of sixteen people to the property in August. The majority of our group are very uncomfortable traveling right now and some fall in the high risk category. So as a group, we decided to postpone or reschedule the trip until it is safer to travel. Unfortunately, the person in charge of bookings informed me that he will not allow us to do so and that we will not get our deposit back unless they rent our rooms. 

We have had to cancel, postpone and reschedule many flights and hotels because of the pandemic and have had no issues at all. This Ocho Cascasdas response is more of an outlier. As such, unless you are willing to travel regardless of what is going on with the pandemic, I highly recommend waiting until the world is a more stable place before booking here. 

Either way, I will provide an update on what the final outcome wis with our situation.

Below, are just a few of the steps the charming, family-owned-and-operated Santiago de Alfama is taking to ensure the safety of all staff and guests. 

To begin with, Portugal has not been as dramatically affected by Covid as some of their neighbors. Due to contact tracing and acting quickly while their numbers were low, they were able to rein it in quickly. 

• Only essential staff will be on site and overlap between shift changes has been shortened.
• Carpets treated with antiseptic will be placed in entry ways to trap incoming dirt and bugs.
• Linens washed at 90 degrees celsius.
• Staff leaves uniforms at the property for washing.
• All menus have been removed and all hotel and restaurant payments are contactless.
• Unique hand washing stations will be set up on-site.
• A contingency plan has been developed in case any staff or guests become ill while on property.
• Only one guest is allowed in the Beauty Bar at a time and they must have an appointment.

• A completed guest registration form and copy of your passport will be required in advance of your stay.
• A list of all previous countries you have visited and Sri Lankan hotels you have stayed in is required in advance of your stay.
• Your temperature will be checked upon check-in.
• Your luggage will be disinfected upon arrival and your room key will be disinfected in your presence before being handed over to you.

• Upon arrival, guests will receive a wellness kit that includes branded masks, gloves, sanitizers and wet wipes
• Villa kitchens will be equipped with a box of utensils for their exclusive use throughout their stay.
• Guests enjoy freestanding accommodations that are spread across acres of rainforest at a density of less than 10%. 
• A dedicated villa attendant remains with the guest throughout their stay, so guests aren&#;t seeing a different face every day.
• The staff doesn’t require much additional training as much of the new protocols have existed and been enforced here since day-one.

Imagine, your own private over-water villa, removed from crowds and chaos. What better place to socially distance than the St. Regis in Bora Bora? 

French Polynesia is currently Covid free and they’d like to keep it that way. However, they also want to welcome you back. The island nation has implemented a system that took effect July 15th designed to do both. It is an evolving process that I hope continues to be successful. 

Here is how St. Regis Bora Bora is keeping guests and staff safe in addition to French Polynesia’s measures:

• Upon arrival at the Bora Bora airport, a St. Regis airport greeter will invite you to help yourself to a lei and a sanitary welcome kit that includes masks, hand sanitizer and your own pen.
• Your temperature will be taken and your luggage will be sprayed with sanitizer.
• Before boarding the boat to the resort, you will be asked to use the hand sanitizer and wear your mask. If the boat is shared, each guest will be seated accordingly.
• At the resort, you will be assigned your own bicycles and snorkeling equipment to be used during your stay. 
• All menus for dining outlets and the spa will be replaced with boards and digital versions.
• At the spa, facials and head treatments are temporarily unavailable.
• The gym will be limited to a certain amount of guests at one time.
