On Monday, I went with some friends to watch a talk show in a small bar they often go to. When I arrived, I saw a list on a small table, and those who were going to go on stage to talk about the talk show could write their names on it. Most of them seem to be regular customers, and they also go to different venues to talk about talk shows. Everyone has their own style, and most of the jokes involve race, homosexuality, religion, politics, etc. Some are funny, some are colder. There is a hemispherical bell on each table. If you think the joke is funny, you can press it many times in a row. But if you think the joke is cold and boring, you want the talk show actor to continue talking about other jokes. , just click. After watching it all night, I feel that doing a talk show really needs to be able to withstand particularly strong psychological pressure. No matter how many times no one laughs and the bell is ringing, it will feel a little uncomfortable, but they must have worked out after a long time. After the talk show ended, we found that only our table and no one went up to talk about the talk show, and everyone else had already come on stage to talk. The host said to our table that every time he saw a name that was difficult to pronounce on the list, They all thought it would be from our table, because none of us looked like Americans, and asked where each of us came from, saying that it was like a small United Nations.
The Science and Technology Museum is another free day on Tuesday, probably because it is π Day (March 14), and many schools organize elementary and middle school students to visit here. I went with my friends to visit the exhibition that I didnt finish last time, and it took me another five hours to finish it.
After visiting the museum, I went to the nearby lake. The scenery is very good.
I went to the first housesitting I found in Chicago on Wednesday, and I was a little flattered that the family found me on the software. The house is in the city center. The owner is a young couple with hearing impairment. The hostess has slightly better hearing and can communicate with me through my mouth movements. However, the host has more difficulty hearing and expressing language. Sign language communication. After they explained it to me, they went to the airport to prepare for the plane trip. There are four cats in their family, all of which were gradually adopted after the epidemic began. A cat cannot see in one eye. The four cats are very cute, but it really takes more time to clean up the cat litter than the previous two cats. Ha ha.
I haven’t run since I left California. I went for a run one morning and ran along the river to the place where the Chicago River was dyed green last week. I can still see a large area of green, which has not completely disappeared. Along the way, I saw many people in suits and leather shoes rushing to work.
I went to a salsa club with my friends on Thursday night. I haven’t danced salsa since I left San Cristóbal in October last year. It took me half a day to warm up and recall the basic dance steps. There are all kinds of masters here, which makes me miss Mexico even more.
Went to another housesitting on Saturday, this one in a high-rise apartment building on the Chicago River in downtown. The owners were an elderly couple, both lawyers in the courtroom, and they had a very energetic kitten. When we arrived, it looked like a high-end apartment. They couldnt even park by themselves, they could only use the valet parking service. The male owner picked me up downstairs and introduced me how to park and pick up the car. Their house is on the 27th floor. The apartment is huge. From the floor-to-ceiling windows and the balcony, you can see the Chicago River. The view is so good. There is also a well-equipped gymnasium on the lower level. Suddenly living in such a high-end place is a little uncomfortable.
At noon on Saturday, I went to China Town for morning tea with my colleagues who worked together ten years ago. Obviously, it can’t compare with the morning tea in the Bay Area, but I was really happy to see them. Friends invited me to play board games at their house on Saturday night. Before I went, I found that their home was very close to the Cultural Center of Irish Descendants, so I went to see it in advance. There was a small bar in it, and there was an Irish live band in a hall next to it. There were many people singing and dancing to celebrate St. Patricks Day, and many of them were of Irish descent. The children danced heartily to the beat of the music in front of the stage, and everyone was happy watching.
Then I go to a friends house, Im always the first to arrive on time, but theyre not ready yet, the host is cooking a couple of Indian dishes and it smells so good. After that, a few friends came one after another, some from the couch-surfing party, and some new friends. I ate most of the night. The Indian food cooked by the host was so delicious that I couldnt stop eating it. Because I ate too much, I started to feel sleepy after playing board games.
On Sunday, I went to the Fulton Market area near the housekeepers residence, went to the Time Out Market for a stroll, and came out to see a lot of interesting graffiti on the street.
Our everyday routines have officially been shaken up, remembering which day of the week it is has become slightly tricky and the celebrations are getting into FULL swing!
Before the festivities kick into serious gear, I just wanted to take a second to remind you that this time of year really isn’t about blowing it, really isn’t about depriving, really isn’t about being perfect AND LETS BE HONEST, it really isn’t about sticking to your everyday routine and habits % either.
I know that this time of year can often bring about a lot of stress and guilt amongst all of us. We put pressure on ourselves to either try stick to our routines OR if things don’t go according to “plan” we beat ourselves up and can get caught up in quite a negative and toxic mindset.
My online clients know this, because I say it A LOT in their weekly check ins, “In between goals is a thing called life that needs to be lived and ENJOYED
The festive season shouldn’t be about guilt and shame NOT AT ALL! What’s the point of living a lifestyle where you cannot work hard AND enjoy yourself too?! There is SO more to life than stressing about food, training, your body or being perfect! Food guilt, self-bullying or food shaming does A LOT more harm to your health and goals in comparison to feeling bloated, missing a few workouts or overindulging here and there during the festive season! Let it go and move on – it’s not the be all and end all.
Why not rather:
In the bigger picture, the festive season is SO small. REMEMBER: It’s not about being perfect, it’s about being consistent! I understand that finding the “balance” can be hard at this time of year but there is no need to have an all or nothing mindset. One day/s, a week/s is NOT the end of the world AND when you realize that… MAGIC happens!
P.S. Once the holidays are over, when it’s all said and done, you get back into your *amazing routine (which you miss so much at the end of the holidays) AND EVERYTHING falls back into place in NO time – that much I promise you!
*NOTE what I have said here, don’t fall into the negative trap of getting back home after the holidays in panic mode thinking you need to over train and starve yourself to “undo” the holidays. That’s a BIG NO NO! Just go back into your amazing routine (lifestyle) that you love, and it will all take care of itself.
My Personal Fav Festive Season Tips:
MOST IMPORTANT Don’t forget what the holidays are about celebrating and spending time with your loved ones, relaxing, enjoying yourself, practicing self-care, listening to your body and making sure that your cup is recharged and FULL!
