SOURCES OF TURKISH HISTORY: AN OVERVIEW OF THE ARCHEOLOGICAL RESOURCES OF HUN MATERIAL CULTURE IN ALTAI

Turkish history and culture spread from Central Asia to Europe, from Siberia to India. The Turks left countless works which constitute the sources of Turkish history in this wide geography. One of these works, which is a source of Turkish history and culture, is archaeological finds or archaeological sources such as kurgans, petroglyphs. The Altai region, which constitutes the boundary of our study and is the homeland of Turkic history, is also a very rich place in terms of the archaeological remains mentioned. Altai region is like a natural museum with numerous archaeological remains. While wandering anywhere in the Altai, it is impossible not to see kurgans, petroglyphs or other archaeological remains. There are archaeological remains belonging to all periods in the Altai region. One of these periods is undoubtedly the Hun period. Numerous kurgans and petroglyphs of Hunnic culture are the material remains of culture that witness to Turkish history in the Altai geography and they show that one of the main sources of history. For more than a century, excavations and field surveys have been carried out in this region and thus, concrete information is obtained in the illumination of Turkish cultural history. Thanks to the excavations are being explained daily life, religious beliefs, food, clothing, weapons, horse harnesses, technologies, economic fields and artworks of cultures. In this study we tried to explain the archaeological remains of the Hunnic period such as kurgans and petroglyph in the Altai. While explaining these archaeological remains, we tried to explain their locations and the finds obtained in the excavations.
