A Suggestion to the Turkish Youth From the National Cinema Perspective: Re-Reading of the Film “ Memleketim"

Cinema, as in all other branches of art, is directly or indirectly affected by the structure and dynamics of the society in which it is produced. As a result of this influence, changes occur in the narrative properties and technical structures of the films produced from time to time. In Turkish cinema, Yücel Çakmaklı, the pioneer of the National Cinema movement and the movement, produced films with his own perspective in order to draw attention to the points he was disturbed and uneasy with the changes in Turkish society. This cinema movement; It succeeded in attracting the attention of the audience of the period with its didactic features nourished by the culture and alternative solutions to the situation and problems experienced by Turkish youth. Having these structural features, “Memleketim” (), directed by Yücel Çakmaklı, is one of the important films in which the idea and purpose of National Cinema is deeply processed. In this study, the sociological and sectoral characteristics of the period, the Turkish youth reflected in the film, the European dream as a promise and the youth of today will be examined with the method of “Ideological Film Analysis” and the concerns of National Cinema over Turkish youth will be re-read through Turkey’s current social strcuture.
