If we look carefully at price and time, we can notice that they are closely connected. A common price-time chart allows to calculate Bradley Cowan’s Price-Time Radius Vector Indicator with the help of Pythagorean theorem. It states that the sum of the squares of the legs of a right triangle is equal to the square of its hypotenuse. In our case, price and time are the legs and the hypotenuse is PTV (Price-Time Radius Vector).

Radius Vector PTV

On the example below you can see how to calculate this indicator. We have start point A, we know that the length of cut AB is equal to points for 35 hours. We calculate PTV of BC, which is equal to Structure is ABCD or ABCDEF.

Radius Vector PTV (2)

All PTV values are approximately equal for AF segment. There are deviations in length sometimes, when PTV is overlapped or shifts. It complicates the analysis. The more experience you get the easier it will be to define the initial point of  PTV, even if it is located in the field of previous radius-vector. More details you can find in the works by Bradley Cowan. The beginning or end of one PTV should not necessarily match the beginning or end of another PTV. In other words, vectors can overlap or deviate from each other.

To make PTV equation visible on a price-time chart, it is required to have axises of price and time in the same scale. In other words one price unit must match one time unit. When scale of axises do not match, vectors will be distorted.

PTV is not limited by one chart, and there are no limitations for size. Big PTV includes small PTVs. We have specific PTV of black BC segment, which also can be calculated in more details. We have got three segments AB, BC and AC and can calculate CD on this base with the same formula.

In this case we exactly have got inequation between all Price Time Vector segments, BC is much smaller than AB and AC. When the angles between PTV and time axis decreases, the time component increases and the price component decreases. That is to say, the time component of BC is more than the time component AB, whereas the price component BC is smaller than the price component AB, because price and time move to the counter-balance.

Radius Vector PTV (3)

On the base of PTV on the previous image, having two segments AB and calculated CD, we build an ellipse, and will get segments DE and EF on the orange ellipse and DE on the green ellipse. When price reaches D point, DE segment will be known.

20 riveting things to know

Here are top 20 updates on Pakistan election results,

1) The United States, Britain, and the European Union on Friday separately expressed concerns about Pakistan's electoral process in the wake of a vote on Thursday and urged a probe into reported irregularities.

2) The U.S. and the EU both mentioned allegations of interference, including arrests of activists, and added that claims of irregularities, interference, and fraud should be fully investigated, Reuters reported.

3) The main battle was between former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's party and candidates backed by ex-prime minister Imran Khan. However, both declared victory separately.

4) Khan is in jail and his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has been barred from the polls. Independents, most of them backed by Khan, had won the most seats - 98 of the counted by GMT - while Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party had won 69 seats.

5) Some U.S. lawmakers such as Democratic U.S. Representatives Ro Khanna and Ilhan Omar also expressed concerns, with Khanna saying "the military is interfering and rigging the result."

6) Nawaz Sharif said that he will he will seek a coalition government after trailing jailed rival Imran Khan. However, a day earlier, he had gruffly rejected the idea of a coalition, confidently telling reporters after casting his vote that he wanted a single party running Pakistan for a full five-year term.

7) Analysts had predicted there may be no clear winner, adding to the woes of a country struggling to recover from an economic crisis while it grapples with rising militancy in a deeply polarised political environment, as per Reuters reports.

8) The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) prepared the Election Management System (EMS) app for transmission of results from each polling station to a centralized system where the Returning Offices would complete the tabulation of all results.

9) It was expected that CEC would address a press conference, however, Special Secretary Zafar Iqbal appeared on state-run PTV just before 3 am on Friday to announce the first official results from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial assembly.

10) According to analysts say a coalition government will struggle to tackle multiple challenges - foremost being seeking a new bailout programme from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) after the current arrangement expires in three weeks.

11) A coalition government "would probably be unstable, weak" and "the big loser will be the army", said Marvin Weinbaum, Director of Afghanistan and Pakistan Studies at the Middle East Institute in Washington.

12) The election was expected to help resolve the crises Pakistan has been dealing with but a fractured verdict "could very well be the basis for even deeper exposure to forces which would create instability", he said.

13) "Pakistan will be entering into more severe political and economic instability if no party emerges with a simple majority," said Sajid Amin of the Sustainable Development Policy Institute, a former adviser to the ministry of finance.

14) Pakistan is in an economic crisis, with dwindling foreign currency reserves that will be further strained by a $1 billion bond payment due in two months, while its $3 billion funding program with the International Monetary Fund expires on April

15) A new government is expected to quickly take the necessary steps for example on governance of state-owned enterprises to complete the last remaining review of the current $3 billion IMF Standby Arrangement - a bridge loan that helped pull the country back from the brink of default.

16) "We expect one of the most immediate policy initiatives taken by the new government will be to negotiate a new IMF Extended Fund Facility program, which typically runs for about years," said Johanna Chua, global head of emerging market economics at Citi in a note to clients.

17) Political fragmentation might make it harder to push through painful and unpopular but necessary measures such as widening the tax base, analysts said.

18) Elections were held to of the seats in the national assembly and a political party needs seats for a simple majority.

19) Elections were postponed in one national and three provincial assembly constituencies due to the deaths of contesting candidates. This includes NA-8 (Bajaur), PK (Bajaur), PK (Kohat), and PP (Rahim Yar Khan). Voters elsewhere will cast two votes each, one for each of the two assemblies.

20) Overall, seats are needed to secure a simple majority out of its total seats, which include the reserved slots for women and minorities.

Pakistan Elections Polling body's new app faces glitches as authorities grapple with result delays

According to details, shared by The Dawn, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) prepared the Election Management System (EMS) app for transmission of results from each polling station to a centralized system where the Returning Offices would complete the tabulation of all results.

However, Presiding Officers at several polling stations on Thursday evening found themselves unable to transmit the final results of their respective stations using the much-touted and homegrown system, the Dawn Newspaper reported, adding, an absence of connectivity.

Due to this, there has been an unusual delay in declaring the election results to the National Assembly and four provincial assemblies.

Earlier in , the ECP’s Result Transmission System (RTS) was clogged when thousands of polling stations began sending results from all parts of the country. This caused delays in the announcement of the results of some constituencies.

With situations going out of hand, the ECP official said that the presiding officers would now 'physically' send the results of their polling stations to the offices of their respective returning officers. This would be transmitted via the system 'once internet service is restored', the report said.

It was expected that CEC would address a press conference, however, Special Secretary Zafar Iqbal appeared on state-run PTV just before 3 am on Friday to announce the first official results from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial assembly.

He blamed the suspension of internet and mobile phone services for the delay in the compilation and announcement of results.

EMS faults:

Meanwhile, ECP had claimed that the countrywide test run of EMS had been a “success". But two election officials in Sindh province had pointed out faults in the EMS after the second test run earlier this month.

Abdul Qadir Mashori, the Qambar assistant commissioner (AC) and Returning Officer (RO) for National Assembly seat NA (Qambar-Shahdadkot-II); and Usman Khaskheli, the Bakrani AC and RO for PS (Larkana-III) seat of Sindh Assembly, had written to their superiors, conveying almost identical issues regarding the EMS.

Mashori has even expressed apprehension that either the system was an 'utter failure' or was being 'controlled' by someone, while Khaskheli wrote a similar letter addressed to the Larkana district returning officer (DRO).

Modern trends in journalism have not only created opportunities and opened news vistas they have also posed big challenges especially those that were related to voice cloning, deep fake and Artificial Intelligence. There is no doubt digital media has taken over the maximum space leaving little room for the print media but even then the print media is also retaining its ground with the help of good news reports, articles and features, etc. Unbiased reporting, and analysis are hallmarks of journalism and lend credibility to the profession of journalism.

Caretaker Minister for Information, Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs MurtazaSolangi expressed these views at the launching ceremony of the PTV’s Newsletter on Friday.

He congratulated the PTV’s team for the landmark achievement and hoped the in the days to come the Newsletter would be made livelier, more informative and colourful.

The minister said it was a commendable initiative of the PTV to issue a newsletter that would eventually promote reading and writing habits among the youth.

The minister recalled that he started his professional journey with print reporting as part of the launch team of The News that carried his first by-line news story on February 11,

Solangi underlined the need for the PTV to align itself with the modern technologies for its progress as well as addressing the challenges associated with such technologies.

In addition to live broadcast, the PTV would have to create quality products in the digital landscape, he added. In the last six months of the caretaker government, he said, the PTV did unbiased reporting and gave due coverage to all the political parties across the board. He said the PTV’s mandate would not have any effect with the formation of the government since the prime objective of the national broadcaster was to report on the civic issues including economy and culture. Lauding the national television in promoting the diverse culture and regional languages, he urged the PTV to continue its journey with the same spirit.

He also highlighted the initiatives taken by the PTV during the tenure of the caretaker setup, including round-the-clock broadcast at the PTV Center Multan as well as launch of the PTV Bolan programmes in Hazaragi language. He expressed the hope that the new government would further upgrade the PTV by introducing modern technologies.

Price-Time Radius Vector (PTV)

A variety of techniques attempt to forecast prices in financial markets. However, relatively few deal with the most important element in financial market timing, i.e., time. Traditional cycle analysis is the most commonly used of these techniques, but even the so-called experts on this subject acknowledge the great limitations of their approach. Cycles (or more correctly, rhythms) tend to suddenly disappear, only to reappear at a later date with phase shifts from their original pattern. Contemporary cycle analysts cannot explain why cycles &#;disappear&#;, why they reappear with a phase shift, and a variety of other characteristics that will be explained in this course.

DEFINITION OF THE PRICE-TIME RADIUS VECTOR (PTV)

To begin the analysis of the dimension of time it must be understood that financial market movements are defined within the limits of radii vectors. These vectors allow analysts to expand their thinking beyond one dimension at a time, i.e., only price levels or only time values, and to START VIEWING PRICE-TIME AS A SINGLE UNIFIED ELEMENT. For, as will be shown in this course, PRICE AND TIME ARE INTIMATELY CONNECTED.

On a traditional price-time chart of any financial market, the price-time radius vector is defined as shown in Figure For the sake of brevity, the price-time radius vector will, hereafter, be referred to as PTV.

This is an application of the Pythagorean theorem taught in high school geometry classes, which states that the sum of the squares of the sides of a right triangle is equal to the square of the hypotenuse. In this case, the sides of the right triangle are time and price, and the hypotenuse is the PTV.

THE PTV HAS CONSTANT LENGTH AND DEFINES THE INTERVAL OF OPERATION WITHIN SPECIFIED MARKET CONDITIONS.

Price-Time Radius Vector (PTV) 01

Figure : Definition of the Price-Time Radius Vector (PTV)

CALCULATION OF THE PTV

Chart I.A is used to demonstrate how the PTV is calculated. On this price-time chart the time distance between the two points labeled B and C was trading hours.3 The price change between these same two points was points. Therefore, using the equation from Figure , the PTV, BC, is calculated to be the square root of ( + ), which equals This technique is repeated for each of the PTVs shown on Chart I.A, and the results are contained in Table

Tables similar to Table will be used throughout Part I of this course. They contain the data used to calculate all PTVs. It is highly recommended the reader reference Appendix E at this point to avoid any possible confusion about how the data used in this course is collected or calculated. If the reader is not interested in verifying the data used to calculate the PTVs, then the only necessary part of these tables is the last column, which contains the final values of the PTVs. For example, in Table the first row of data shows the PTV, AB, to equal

Suggested Books and Courses AboutMarket Cycles

When the PTV values from column eight of Table are studied, one of the first things noticed is that they are all approximately the same length. The only deviation occurred at the bottom labeled F (radius vector DF = ), which was caused by the overlapping radius vector EH. On Chart I.A note that F lies on the line connecting E and H.

Price-Time Radius Vector (PTV) 02

One reason why market analysts have failed to notice that all these market movements were equal in length is that the scales of the price and time axes must be just right in order for this phenomenon to be immediately visible on a price-time chart. Specifically, the price axis must reflect one unit of price for each unit of time.4 As the scales deviate from this one-to-one relationship the appearance of the vectors will be more and more distorted from their actual size. To make this clearer, refer again to Chart I.A. Notice that radius vector CD appears to be longer than radius vector CF. However, calculations have proven they are equal in length. The distortion is caused because Chart I.A is not  &#;squared out&#;. If the time scale of this chart was stretched out these vectors would appear to be closer in length. Regardless of the scales used for the two axes on a chart, by employing the technique described above the actual length of the radius vector is determined, and the graphical approach is unnecessary.

Price-Time Radius Vector (PTV) 03

Table : PTV Calculations for Chart I.A , Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) 3//

PTVs ROTATE AROUND A COMMON CENTER

On Chart I.A the points &#;C&#; and &#;I&#; hold special significance. These two points represent the center points about which these two radii vectors rotate in a clockwise direction. The &#;C&#; radius vector starts with CA, sweeps through CB, over to CD, and finally terminates with CF. The &#;I&#; radius vector starts with IE, sweeps through IG, over to IJ, and finally terminates with IK.

An interesting concept is that these two rotating radii vectors have their beginning points defined before their center points have been reached in time. For example, at point A the radius vector swinging from A to B is already moving within the limits of the radius vector centered at point C, EVEN THOUGH POINT C HAD YET TO OCCUR IN TIME. The following radii vectors are equal length:

  • CA =
  • CB =
  • CD =
  • CF =

The values used for the calculation of these radii vectors are contained within Table Similarly, Table shows that the radii vectors rotating around point &#;I&#; have equal lengths:

  • IE =
  • IG =
  • IJ =
  • IK =
Price-Time Radius Vector (PTV) 04

Table : PTV Calculations for Vectors , Rotating About Point &#;C&#; on Chart I.A.

The reason why radius vector DF was shorter than the other vectors is now apparent. The sequence of radii vectors rotating around point C terminated with radius vector CF. However, the radii vectors rotating around point I began with radius vector IE. This means the two cycles overlapped by the amount EF, causing the terminal point of DF to be &#;pulled up&#; by the radius vector rotating around point I.

THE PTV ANGLE DEFINES THE EXTENT AND DURATION OF A MOVE

Since the length of the PTV is constant, it follows that as the time component decreases the price component increases, and vice-versa. By knowing the length of the radius vector the analyst is able to project the magnitude and DURATION of a move. If a fast advance is under way he knows it will not last very long. Similarly, a slowly advancing market will show little price gain because the length of the radius vector will be consumed by the component of time, leaving little for price.

In Figure the PTVs OA, OB, and OC are all equal length. OA advanced very quickly to its maximum length, i.e., T1 is a very short time interval; consequently, the price component of OA, P1, is very large. As the angle between the PTV and the time axis decreases, the time component increases and the price component decreases. That is, the time component of OB, T2, is longer than the time component of OA, T1. And the price component of OB, P2, is less than the price component of OA, P1.

Similarly, as the angle becomes even flatter with the time axis, as with OC, the time component, T3, becomes greater than that of either OA or OB. And the price component of OC becomes less than that of either OA or OB.

Price-Time Radius Vector (PTV) 05

Table : PTV Calculations for Vectors Rotating About Point &#;I&#; on Chart I.A.

A real-life example of a PTV similar to OA is shown on Chart I.A between points C and D. The time component of CD was short, only 79 hours. Hence, its price component must be long in order to maintain a constant length radius vector. In fact, the price component of CD was points, which approaches the maximum amount for a PTV at this energy level.

An example of a PTV similar to OB is shown on Chart I.A, between points E and H. Between those two points the time component was hours. Hence, the price component must be shorter than it was in CD to maintain the constant length radius vector. In fact, the price component was points.

PTV AND THE MUSICAL SCALE

The frequency of notes on the musical scale are defined by ratios of simple integers relative to the fundamental tone (such as the octave=, the fifth=, the fourth=, etc). Similarly, lengths of PTVs are defined by the same ratios as found on the musical scale.

Price-Time Radius Vector (PTV) 06

Figure :Decreasing angle between PTV and the time axis, showing decreasing price component and increasing time component

For example, Chart I.B (Table ) is a continuation of Chart I.A. On Chart I.B, between points M and N, the time distance was hours and the price component was points. Using the technique described above, the PTV between points M and N (hereafter, referred to as MN) is calculated to be , which is two times (the octave) the amount calculated for the radii vectors on Chart I.A. The octave above PTV, MN, can be seen on Chart I.B, between points M and O (hereafter, referred to as MO) where the time component was hours and the price component was points. Hence, the PTV, MO, is calculated to be , which is twice (the octave) the length of MN and four times (the double octave) the radii vectors shown on Chart I.A.

PTVs CAN EXTEND FOR CENTURIES

Application of the PTV is not limited to daily charts. In fact, there is no limit to how large (or small) a PTV can be. For example, Chart I.C is a chart of the stock market from to , where the PTV, AE, is calculated using weekly data to be price-time units in length. The values used for this calculation are shown in Table This PTV will be used in later lessons to show the geometric structure during this time period.
