I&#;m going to walk you through some of the key process&#;s Carolyn has recently undergone to get long lasting maintainable and sustainable results. Carolyn has been an absolute superstar from the moment she stepped in the gym this time last year. Starting off with training then quickly getting amongst the classes and loving it. Since then she has accomplished so many things in a year. Running a mile&#; running a 5k&#; running a 10k. Visiting other CrossFit boxes around the country&#; entering her first comp. Smashing Pb&#;s, hundreds of mini goals along the way, having lots of fun, making lots of new friends and losing over 50kg in the process of it all.

So this is what really works!

1. Have A Specific Goal

Unless you know your destination, how are you ever going to get there? Many start a &#;journey&#; without knowing what we are working towards. Set a specific goal that is measureable in someway, make sure it has a clear deadline and lots of mini goals/deadlines along the way. This helps with accountability and motivation. We always set big milestones to work towards each quarter. For the weight loss, again working on hitting targets with timeframes. The general aim of dropping a kilo a week.

2. Be Consistent

Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither is great body. Many of us start with the best intentions but when things get tough we soon blame “x,y and z” for our failure to stick to the plan. The truth is life will always get in the way and will continue to get in the way. How we overcome these setbacks and remain consistent is therefore essential. I find weekly check ins and regular interaction great for combatting this as if any obstacles arise&#; we work around them before they become walls. We go through a questionnaire each week looking at the past weeks performance, sleep, energy, activity levels, hurdles&#; everything. What gets measured, gets managed!

3. Not Knowing What We Eat

Many of us are simply unaware of the amount of calories found in our foods. As a result, we drastically underestimate the amount of food we are eating on a daily basis. The outcome of which means we end up in a positive energy balance with more fuel than our bodies know what to do with. The end result… fat gain. To overcome this you MUST start planning ahead when it comes to your food choices. Tracking isn&#;t essential but I find those that get the best results and faster track as it leaves less room for error. MyFitness pal was used pretty much from the start and it is an absolutely awesome education tool for people to understand what makes up their food and accuracy for portion control.

4. Bingeing On The Weekends

Eating well Monday to Friday is great, but the body doesn’t stop when that Friday feeling kicks in. This is probably one of the main areas that stops people from getting better results. All those calorific cocktails and late night kebabs have to go somewhere, even if you don’t remember having them. Lots of hard work during the week days is unraveled at the weekends halting progress.

5. The Need To Lift Heavy Weights

Cardio is cool for utilising stored fuel, AKA body fat, but for you to create a toned physique that actually has shape and structure to it you need to build muscle. Yes this can be done by home workouts, but with mechanical load, AKA lifting heavy stuff being the primary mechanism for muscle growth, it is essential this forms the bulk of your training. Getting in, lifting weights properly and safely is the missing part to a lot of people training routine. You&#;ll get way more bang for your buck than hours on end of cardio.

6. Overcomplicating Things

The most important factor in body transformations is adherence, sticking to the plan. Having a super complex plan with specific meal timings and periodised training protocols may work for Olympic athletes who live and breathe this stuff, but that isn&#;t the majority of us. So if your goal is fat loss sustain a mild calorie deficit, train heavy times a week and be consistent for a minimum of 3 months. SIMPLE!

7. Believe In Yourself

Self-belief is at the core of everything. Regardless of your potential if you don’t believe in yourself you will NEVER succeed. Constantly looking back into the past at times you failed will only reaffirm your limiting belief that this can’t be done. In this internet age we are used to having things instantly. But the truth of the matter is on a biological level we are still the same as we were 10, years ago. In other words, we cannot shortcut our biology when it comes to body transformations. Whilst cutting calories super low and starting out on a 6 day per week gym programme may elicit quick results, for such results to last we have to see ourselves doing this for the rest of our lives. If we don’t, don’t start. It needs to become part of your lifestyle.

9. Thinking Supplements Are Magic

Number one question we get asked first off is&#; what supplements can I take to help with losing weight or help me lose weight faster? Don&#;t get me wrong, supplements can assist in certain situations. But unless you have all the above points nailed down then they are totally useless. No supplement is going to shed that thick layer of fat over your belly or build that sculpted physique. At the end of the day, supplements are there to SUPPLEMENT your existing regime, they are not there to build it.

Lukewarm Christians

There is a disturbing trend emanating from many who are unrepentant sinners. Namely, in order to find comfort in their sin they will attack Christians who try and help by accusing them of being judgmental.

Their stream of consciousness then degenerates from calling their charitable friend judgmental to calling him a hypocrite, as Christians are not to judge other people. &#;Judge not, that you be not judged.&#; (Matthew NKJV)

This self-defense mechanism that sinners employ seems somewhat logical on its face, but, of course, it&#;s not.

First, sinners, especially those who seek help, know they are doing wrong. Notwithstanding, many will try and avoid the consequences of their sin. So they will use whatever tactic they can think of to try and redirect the issue at hand. To that end, they try and make a fool of those trying to help, which gives them comfort and the upper hand in the conversation, i.e., whatever they&#;ve done can&#;t possibly be as bad as your hypocrisy. They try and excuse their bad behavior by citing the bad behavior of others &#; in this case, you. But their comparison is fatally flawed.

Yes, only God can judge people, yet the Bible tells us that we are to judge all things. &#;But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one.&#; (1 Corinthians ) This seeming nuance between people and things is anything but &#; it&#;s the difference between night and day.

Take the example of adultery. We are not to judge those committing adultery, although we are not to keep company with them (1 Corinthians ). But we are to judge the sin. And then, in an effort to save our brother or sister in Christ from the second death, we are to tell them the truth about their sin &#; and the consequences it brings to those who will not repent. &#;Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.&#; (1 Corinthians )

Here&#;s what I tell those who seek my lay minister help when they play the judgmental card. &#;I do not have the authority to sit in judgment on anyone &#; but I agree with God and what He says about your sin, and for that I will apologize to no one.&#;

How sad that so many people who try and help others are cowered by the arrogance of sin that shows its ugly face by attacking those who love sinners enough to tell them the truth of God&#;s Word. For those who will not turn their backs on their fellow man, take solace in knowing you have done the right thing.

My mother, a dear Christian woman who lived the life God asked of her, used to say to me when I would ask to do something she knew was not in my best interests, &#;I could say yes and make both our lives easier, but I love you too much to say anything but no.&#; True Christian love often means refusing to take the path of least resistance.

If there were more Good Samaritans who were not afraid to be seen as judgmental, the world would be better off.

Of course, there are those who claim the Savior&#;s name, but when all is said and done are actually judgmental &#; but those poor souls are faux-Christians who don&#;t know the heart of God or His Word. That said, those who truly believe cannot allow the failings of others to cause us to shy away from our role as God&#;s earthly representatives.

When you help others, know this. Evil will use every trick in the book to try and cause you to falter, for if it is successful it ensures your personal ministry never helps those who must turn from their sin or destroy their own soul. You must also realize that when you know you&#;re doing as God asks, the fact that unrepentant sinners call you judgmental or a hypocrite is a badge of honor and a testament to your unwavering faith.
